01How we do it
How it is done
In the interwar and Victorian stock that makes up most of the Wirral and Liverpool, openings are rarely square and linings have usually moved. We hang to the opening as it is, easing where it needs easing, rather than hanging to a theoretical square and leaving a tapering gap down one side.
Hinge positions are set to the door and the weight it is carrying, and the ironmongery is fitted properly: latches that line up, handles level, and no packing behind a strike plate.
Doing a whole house in one visit works out cheaper per door than one at a time, and everything ends up matching: the same handles, the same hinge positions, the same margins.
Door fitting in Moreton and across the Wirral
Most door fitting we do starts with an opening that is not quite square. We are based in Moreton, so a good share of the work is minutes away in Leasowe, Wallasey and Birkenhead, hanging doors into linings that have shifted with the house. We scribe and plane the door to the frame rather than forcing it in, set the hinges flush so nothing binds, and fit the latch and handles so the door shuts on the first push and sits where you leave it.
Because we are joiners and not only door hangers, we can sort what sits around the opening too. New linings where the old ones are split, architrave cut and mitred to match the rest of the room, skirting returned properly into the reveal. If you are doing a whole upstairs, we can take the doors, the architrave and the skirting as one run of work, which tends to be tidier than fitting doors first and making good afterwards.
One thing we do not take on is fire doors. If that is what you need, it is worth going to somebody who fits them day in, day out.
