Postwar housing, built to a pattern
Most of Ellesmere Port and the Suttons is postwar and later, built in planned phases. Like Kirkby and Leasowe that consistency is an advantage: the house types repeat, the openings are regular, and a job priced once is priced accurately the next time.
Ground floors are generally solid concrete, so the same moisture check applies before wood flooring. Walls are block and take fixings anywhere, which makes fitted furniture quicker to fit and cheaper than in lath-and-plaster stock.
Hooton and Childer Thornton are the exceptions, older and more varied, with some property that needs looking at before it can be priced properly.
The industrial belt
The estates behind the town are a substantial commercial patch, and the work there is the same as Bromborough and Knowsley: office space inside units, welfare and training rooms, partitions, benching and boxing in.
Unit work has the same practicalities everywhere: power-floated floors that are hard to fix into lightly, services running at ceiling level where a partition wants to go, and a business operating either side of the wall. We set out from a laser and frame around the services.
Travel and access
It is a straight run down from Moreton and comfortably inside our normal area for both domestic and commercial work.
Access on the estates is excellent. On the housing, drives and wide estate roads mean materials come off at the door.
Ellesmere Port also has a steady amount of landlord and letting work, which is its own kind of job: a fixed budget, a tight turnaround between tenancies, and a list that is mostly doors, kitchen units, skirting and making good. It suits being done as a single visit with everything priced together, and it is work we are happy to take on at that scale rather than one item at a time.
The Vauxhall plant and the businesses that grew up around it also mean a lot of households here work shifts, which is a small thing that changes how a job runs. We would rather fit the working hours around somebody who is sleeping in the day than turn up at eight because that is when we usually start, and it costs nothing to ask when the form comes in.

Our own photographs, every one of them. They were not taken in Ellesmere Port: we only claim a job in a place when we can show it, and the captions describe what is in the picture and nothing else.
