Structural column boxed in with moisture-resistant MDF, scribed to the skirting and window board

Boxing in, column casings and pipe boxing

Steel columns, soil stacks, heating pipes and the odd run of services that nobody wants to look at. Boxing in is a small job that is noticed far more than it should be, because it sits at eye level and it is usually the last thing done before the decorator arrives.

Covering the whole of the Wirral, Liverpool and Merseyside, and commercial work across the North West, roughly an hour and a half from Liverpool.

Thanks, that has come through. We will come back to you shortly. If it is urgent, call 07377 405519.

A few questions, photographs or drawings if you have them, and a written price after a look at the job.

Photographs help on a domestic job. On a commercial one the drawings are the quickest way to a real price. PDFs are fine.

01How we do it

The whole of it is in the scribing. A column casing has to meet the skirting, the window board and the floor, and none of those three is likely to be level or square to each other. We scribe to what is there rather than packing the gap and filling it, because a filled gap opens up again in the first heating season.

We use moisture-resistant MDF where there is any chance of damp, around pipework and in anything that could get washed down, and standard MDF elsewhere. Access panels go in wherever there is a valve or a joint behind the casing, and they are made to be opened rather than cut out later.

Everything is left ready for paint: edges eased, fixings sunk, and the casing sitting tight to the wall rather than held off it.

04Questions

What people ask.

Will there be access to the valves afterwards?
Yes. Anything that needs getting at gets a proper access panel, and we will agree the positions with you before we board.
Do you paint it as well?
No. It is left filled, sanded and ready, and the decorator takes it from there.
